If you see vertical lines appear on your iPhone XS/XS Max/XR/X/8/7/6/5 screen then there is a high possibility that you are encountering either a software malfunction or a hardware malfunction.
Luckily for you, there is a way to get rid of those annoying lines without spending a dime.
Here’s how to fix.
Restart your iPhone
Restarting your phone will get rid of any software bugs and restore your phone back to normal if at all there were any bugs. To restart older models, long-press the power button till the Slide to Power Off slider appears on your screen. Slide it to the right and the phone will go off. Wait for a couple of minutes to power it on.
For iPhone X and newer models, press and hold down either the Volume Up or Volume down button along with the slide button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears. Slide it right and wait for a couple of minutes before pressing Power again. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, move to our next solution.
Hard reset your iPhone
This requires you to reset your phone to its original factory setting, hence the name factory reset. Ensure you back up all your data on either iCloud or iTunes before you hard reset. There are two ways to do this:
The first is to go to Settings > General > Scroll down to Reset > Erase All content and Settings. Wait for the process to complete after which a Welcome screen will appear and prompt you to Set Up.
The second way is to connect your iPhone to a laptop or PC via a USB cable and reset through iTunes.
Put your iPhone in DFU Mode
If hard resetting doesn’t work, then its time to put your iPhone in DFU mode. This is the Device Firmware Update mode. It restores everything including the original coding and is the very last resort after factory settings. You will need to do this by connecting your iPhone to the PC using an Apple USB cable and reset through iTunes.
Gently Push down on your screen
If you dropped your phone and it hit a hard surface the most probable thing is that the LCD cable got disconnected from the logic board. Try pushing down the screen gently so that the pins connecting the screen’s cable and the logic board align. This should get rid of the lines and have your phone’s screen back to normal
Get the screen replaced
If all these solutions do not work and you are certain that the lines appeared after your phone hit a hard surface or was dropped in water or any liquid then it’s best if you get the Apple Pros to have a look at it. It is most probable that your screen needs to be replaced. Do not be tempted to open as you wouldn’t know what components have been damaged. Hardware malfunction is best done at the Apple stores.
I hope by now you have fixed those lines and if not you know what has caused the lines to appear and what you can do about it. We would love to know what worked for you, come back and share.
